Here at Woodstock Flooring Company we settle for nothing less than the best and have developed working practices to minimise the impact on your busy life whilst we work. We never take risks with your floors. We use only the very best professional sanding machines (Lagler Hummel © and Bosch ©,) which produce the finest finishes whilst capturing over 95% of the wood dust they produce. Where we encounter delicate floors or parquets that cannot be easily sanded by larger machines, we rely on good old 'elbow grease' and carry out all sanding by hand. We prefer to take the time to encourage the very best from your floor, and never take short-cuts.
Lesser machines available for hire (commonly used by 'DIYers',) are not capable of producing the best quality finish, often deeply scoring the wood, causing permanent damage and making a quality finish impossible, whilst producing higher levels of hazardous dust. We are regularly called in to undo the mistakes of those who thought they could save a little money, or that floor restoration looked easy. Our advice would be - ask for a free consultation before you take the DIY route.
We use a wide range of high quality stains and finishes, but most popular is the 'Bona' © range, which includes a water-based, polyurathane, polymer coating that hardens to a fine finish, is maintenance free and wipe-clean with only a damp cloth. Even dried-in red wine or coffee stains come off with a single wipe. No detergents are required. A further single 'top-up' coat every two to five years (dependant on traffic volume,) is all that is required to bring this amazingly practical finish back to 100%. Bona polyurathane products bring out the natural tones in any wood. They are micro-porous, which means they allow the wood to breathe, preventing buckling and warping, which can happen if traditional, non-porous varnishes are used. However, we regularly finish in a wide variety of professional waxes, oils and varnishes too. The Bona range also includes an ultra-violet filter which minimises the bleaching effects of sunlight on floors by patio doors or french windows, or in conservatories.
Where there have been repairs or new floors placed next to old ones, we can even match new wood in with the old, using commercial stains, or natural stains we have developed ourselves. We can normally source good quality 2nd hand timber too.
